Mildew and musty odor

My wife and I are still looking for our 1st Airstream. She is concerned about mildew and musty odor building up in the humid south when the Airstream is not being used. What steps do y'all take to avoid this problem?

I think it's caused by leaks. Wet insulation. Seal up the panel joints and window gaskets. Park your trailer inside with the windows open. Repair any rotted wood. A fully stripped and resorted airstream smells great.

Keeping it covered and well ventilated is sound advice. They go down hill fast sitting outside without yearly sealing. A dehumidifier is not a bad idea either. Perry

We use Damprid when parked (which isn't often as it turns out). That and ventilation as often as possible I suppose. No problems so far in Central Virginia part of the south.

I open my trailer up as much as possible. Pointless to run a dehumidifier when the trailer has any windows open. I only use it when the trailer is closed up. It is set on a controller that turns the dehumidifier on and off when the humidity goes over 45%. The dehumidifier does put out a lot heat. I do not have a roof vent. It was replaced by a PO with an AC unit

Here in Louisiana where humidity levels are quite high, I use an electric dehumidifier to keep things fresh.

Before I used it, the walls were sticky and it became quite musty and unpleasant. With the dehumidifier removing a surprising amount of water, it always feels dry and even though it still gets hot, the trailer stays in much better shape.

I have my trailer under a roof. It it's not, the trailer should be inspected periodically for any leaks after rainfalls.
