A leak under the counter in the galley, next to the water heater has been traced (we hope) to the vent pipe that goes thru the roof of our Argosy. At least, water was running down the pipe and on to the floor during our last rainstorm. So we pulled the plastic cover off today, found it broken in a couple of places, repaired it with Mighty Putty, repainted it, put in a new gasket and screen, and put the whole thing back with Sikaflex. We hope this is a fix, albeit temporary until we can order new vent covers. But the Mighty Putty seems to work pretty well. Time will tell. I reformed the top, fixed the broken places and broken out screw holes, filed and sanded it down and drilled new holes and it didn't break! Anybody else used the stuff to repair something! Any experience with it???

Sewer vent pipe gaskets last about 5 to 6 years, then split in several places.
That allows rain water to run around the pipe and on to the floor.
The plastic sewer vent pipe covers are replaced with the metal covers that Airstream trailers used.

It seems to have worked, at least it wasn't leaking after the first 4" this morning. Replaced the old gasket with a piece of 20 mil rubber pond liner, sealed it and screwed it down tight. Ya do what ya gotta do!
That's good for now, as long as it doesn't leak (sounds like it doesn't). When you can get back to a permanent fix, Inland Andy has the aluminum covers that replace the plastic covers that crumble to dust with a hard look.
He also has the rubber gaskets and screen material for them. Even if you want to "DIY" on the gaskets, you would do well to get at least one from Andy as a pattern. The screen, before you ask, is to keep assorted insect life out of the waste plumbing.
We did put a new piece of screen in there, the old one was deteriorated. Eventually we will get new vent covers, but we haven't been doing any work on the roof. The Silicony Monster has struck up there so that all is a project for another (dry) day. For now, nothing leaks except the rain guard over the door. Silicone there too. But we are of the school of thought, if it isn't broken yet, don't fix it. Maybe in July or August when it isn't raining every ten minutes, we will get a chance to get up there and do a good job.
