Leaking Refrigerator Cover
In our 1963 LandYaht, We have replaced the old refrigerator with an all electric under the counter refrigerator. Looks good except, rain water runs down the old refrigerator vent. The original refrigerator vent cover is still on, we do not need the vent only for authenticity. Can this be sealed off, how do we make it water tight???

Did you go with an electric only fridge? I have the same problem. I was going to just seal it as well. That's after I repair the floor. Why did you decide to go with the electric only? Just curious.

Dave,
The reason for all Electricity is that I just did not want the propane, kind of just scared of the the propane, leaking during the night while you sleep.
How far along are you with your trailer?

Theresa,
I am in the process of removing the cabinets and redoing the floor in the galley and entry way. When I pulled out the fridge, I realized that it is dead. So, I was looking at fridges and I found out the price. WOW! So I'm trying to figure out if I can get away with a electric only. I still have to figure out how to seal up the leaking vent. BTW they do sell alarms for the leaking during the night problem.

Be sure you will always have electricity
Before you remove the propane.....please be sure you will always have access to electricity.......with a dual electric/propane, you can still boondock and have a refrigerator.....are you totally/completely sure that you or the next owner of your rig is going to want an electric only refrigerator? pj

Theresa,
Did you also take out the stove/oven, water heater and furnace? All of these appliances run on propane.

Bill,
Yes, all of my appliances were replaced with Electric ones. Electric water heater, Electric AC and Heat, Electric 2 burner stove top, Electric Convection Microwave, and Electric Refrigerator. My trailer had some water damage to the floor and also to some of the cabinets. My Kitchen area was rebuilt and reworked just a little to accommodate the new appliances. I thought long an hard before making my decision for an all electric trailer.

The old vent can be removed and an aluminum patch can riveted to the shell to seal the hole. This should be able to be done in a way where it can be reversed in the future if you change your mind. You should use Olympic or bucked rivets to aesthetically match the others. Seal the seam and rivets with Vulkem. Member Zepelenium has some posts and photos on removing vista view windows and patching and sealing the holes.
