Inland RV gaskets and seals

I notice from the pics on Inland RV's site that they (the seals) have what looks like an adhesive backing strip. Is this to be used in addition to the 3M weather strip adhesive application? If its the same strip that I have seen on other gasket/seal suppliers sites it's probably a 3M adhesive seal. Why the need for the separate application?

I used the gaskets from Inland RV and they worked fine without additional adhesive. Geo...

If you get the surface on your window frames really clean and degreased you won't need additional adhesive. I cleaned my frames with a scotchbrite buff in my dremel tool (only where the gasket sticks. I tried many different ways to get the old adhesive off and the Dremel was by far the fastest and best) and then wiped with lacquer thinner. Once I peeled and stuck the gasket in place it was there. You might want to use just a dab in the corners, but I mitered mine and didn't. The gaskets worked great and fixed my window leaks.

Thanks!
I wonder why the instruction Andy gives out have us putting a bead of adhesive?
Maybe the seals come in both flavours?

Why do cars use adhesive on their door gaskets?

They do not rely on the double sided tape either.

The adhesive "GUARANTEES" that the gasket will "never" come loose or fall off.

I cannot say the same for just the double sided tape.

But, as always. it's the owners choice.

We recommend what we feel is the "very best" fail proof method of gasket installation.

No different flavors

Andy would be the first to tell you to get the best seal you can and not to cut the gaskets in the corners. To have the seals last the longest and stay in place the adhesive is your added insurance. Andy would never steer you wrong. Over kill maybe but wrong never! Happy Trails, Ed

We used the black adhesive on all of the window and door "D" seals. Seemed like good additional sticking insurance instead of just using the double sided tape that came on the seals. It really doesn't add that much time or expense to the installation.

Considering how hard it was to get the original gaskets off, I KNOW they won't fail with the black adhesive. Unless you are really wasteful, 1 tube will do the whole trailer, twice. 31' here, we did all windows, door, and both roof vents.

Andy, i know this is an old post, but do you recommend the same use of sealant for the door gasket? It also has the sticky tape. Do you apply the sealant over the sticky tape? After removing the white paper of course. I have not been able to find a copy of your instructions, thanksfor your time. George

George.

Your entrance door uses a triangulat gasket, that has the white sticky tape on it as well.

Don't depend on it holding anything.

Use the 3M black super weatherstrip adhesive.
