Fan vent gasket installation

After SEARCHING endlessly for certain info here I have become a real stickler for ACCURATE TITLES OF THREADS... a thread called "leaks..more leaks" doesn't tell you much about when/where/how...but one called "help!" is admittedly worse.. I have searched, but not found...

I have new heavy duty gasket material for my metal roof fan vents:

that doesn't seem flexible enough to make into four 90 degree turns...am I correct in assuming I should cut miters and glue the four pieces down individually? thanks

Yes that would work... The old school airplain guys would use a tourch and heat and mold them into 90* corners too... I would only attemped this if you have extra to play with... Also you want you use a High Temp Rubber Glue... You would trully be amazied how hot your roof can get in the summer months!

thanks, vin..these didn't come with instructions...and the old ones have long since disappeared...do you know if the flat extruded edge faces OUT or in? seems like out might shed water better..

What type of gasket is that and where did you get it? Do you have the part number? All three of my roof vents do not seal very well and let heat out. Looks like the gasket you have could end those problems.

Thanks,

Darryl

I'd call Inland RV down in southern CA. They seem to have everything and fast shipping on the west coast. Not alway the cheapest... as I've gotten older (note: I did not say 'more mature'. ), I'm much more willing to pay for expertise.

Ceiling vent cover gasket

Airstream has used this ceiling vent cover gasket, since the late 60's.

You can use it on the old metal ceiling vent covers as well, if you wish.

It is still used on the new covers today.
