Drip cap sealant?

Hi folks,
I am working on my '59 Flying Cloud, sealing up windows and such and would like to know thoughts on resealing my drip caps when I reinstall them.
I have tried Vulkem and it is challenging to apply enough for a seal but keep it from spreading down towards the window frame.
Was that the original product used or was it a butyl tape product?
Thanks

We used Vulkem when re-installing ours. It is messy to work with, but really does the trick!
