Dent repair/re-seal

I have an 88 Excella. A tree fell on the back prior to my purchasing it, so there is some damage that I need to repair. There is a leak somewhere back there, either due to the tree damage or the fault seal at the floor level where the rear bumper meets the shell. At this year is it typical to start seeing leaks in the seams? If so then I would like to replace the rivets and re-seal everything. If that is the case, then what order would be best? repair the dents (hammer out), then reseal and re-rivet, or opposite? The damage is around the rear window frame as well so Im not sure what kind of damage/repair is required around there.

Yes, pictures would help a lot. Hard to give advice about it without really seeing the damage. From what you said, I'm imagining everything from a football dent, to massive tree damage.

Hopefully it's not this bad:
