Chemical Prep Before Caulking?

I read a thread which said that you should do some chemical preparation or cleaning before caulking. I just bought a few tubes of Vulkem 636 to repair a window leak and caulk the top of the Belly band and wondered what type of prep top do other than washing the area. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

For Vulkem or Parbond, I just washed the area with soap & water before use taking care to rinse thoroughly. Timing helps - wash in the morning, and caulk in the afternoon to let any water which may have seeped into the joint-to-be-caulked evaporate.

Before gluing new window seals on, I wiped the area with acetone before gluing.
