BellyBand question

Factory never sealed the top of the belly-band below the furnace.
Would water enter this gap and potentially/eventually cause floor rot, or does the exterior wall extend far enough down to protect the interior floor?
Should I attempt to seal this (very tight location and might be pretty messy to do)?
