Battery Compartment Leak

I've got a leak (from rain) in my battery compartment in my 1971 Overlander. I have sealed everything I can possibly see and/or think of. Even when I duck tape my door to seal it, rain still gets in. There is a mystery tube (clear) that comes out of the top of the door flange and hangs in the compartment. I have no idea what it is and if it is the reason for the leak. Possibly even the hole it is coming out of is the culprit. Any ideas of what this hose is?

The hose is for a battery gas vent. There is a chance that the leak is not at the battery door....but, it could be above or around the place it hows. I have seen window eyebrows installed above the battery doors too. Just chase it down.
