‘19 Globetrotter Roof leak over toilet after heavy rain
We had two consecutive nights of sideways rain; over 5” last night. I found water puddled on top of the toilet set on our 2019 Globetrotter. The sink top and floor was dry. The bathroom ceiling vent is not over the toilet.
There is a seam on the ceiling where two aluminum panels meet that does run over the toilet. When I pressed on the seam, water came out! We’ve had rain before and I’ve never seen any water inside. The difference was the torrential sideways rain.
I looked on the roof and noticed there’s two plumbing vent stacks but my understanding is those go directly to the black and grey tanks.
So fellow ‘Streamers, where do you think it might be coming from? Photos below... By the way, I left the seat up in case it rains again tonight!

Climb up near the bathroom vent and remove the two screws and have a look inside. The two screws should have a rubber washer on them. Check to see that the vent is actually closing right and the foam gasket is sealing.
If it is the gasket, go to home depot and get some window seal.
The water could be coming from the vent and moving over to the seam. Check all the white goo around the vent pipe and the bathroom fan.
I do not see sealer around the bathroom fan in your picture!

I'm with turk on this one, I'd check that bath vent. Raining sideways can make water go places that it normally would not. Check the caulk out on this one.....

Sounds like a good place to start guys!
A week ago I resealed both vents after inspecting them and finding the mfg. foam loose. I suspected my reseal might have failed but since the leak is over the toilet and coming between the seams, it’s got to be getting in from the top of the roof.
I will take the vent apart and see what’s going on then caulk around the vent where it meets the roof.

I had a similar leak. It was not from the vent fan, but from the black tank vent stack. The black pipe up from the black tank was not long enough and didn’t fit up into the roof fitting. The solution was a different type of roof vent fitting that comes down over the sides rather than the fitting AS provides.

I agree the vent/roof joint may be the problem. I used Syphon 360s on my two vents and they have work well. They are low profile and take up less space. You will be impressed with the no smell feature.

Jeff, I had the exact same experience on my '19 Globetrotter 27' during a rainy period while on Taste of the Blue Ridge caravan. When I checked the bathroom vent fan plastic cover the glue-on foam tape was loose. Also, the body of the fan where it meets the roof had only a gasket to seal it and it had a suspicious looking place on it. I replaced the foam on the cover lid. I also took Vulkem and caulked the fan body gasket where it meets the roof and also the fan body / gasket joint. I don't know if my repairs worked since we have not had the trailer out yet. I had an '89 Excella 25' that would get water in the bathroom if the bath fan vent cover was open during a rain.

I had the same leak of my 2017 FC25FB. I resealed the fan vents and sewer vents and that did not fix the leak. I glued on 4" PVC sewer caps on my black and grey tank vents and the leaks went away https://www.homedepot.com/p/4-in-PVC...7HD4/205799563 . I vote that its the black and grey vents that are leaking when it rains hard at an angle. By adding the PVC cap over the stock vent, it turns the stock Airstream vents it into one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Ventline-V204...WF7NAADD2QFQ24
This problem has been occurring on many new Airstreams. Maybe I should just glue on some 4" PVC vent caps on my new Globetrotter before it leaks as preventative maintenance.
Here are pictures of my FC25FB with the 4” PVC caps installed.

Same leak on 2019 GT. Water was coming in thru the 6 screws under the vent cap. I removed the 2 screws holding on the cap then 3 of the 6 screws at a time. Shot some Parabond down the screw holes then replaced the screws, then did the same to the next 3 screws. No more leak. Same issue with the shower vent but took me longer to realize it was leaking, thought the water on the shower floor was from showering. Same fix, no more leak.
When you remove those screws you will likely find some remnant of sealant, on mine it wasn’t enough to stop water coming in thru those 6 holes.

Thanks for the feedback and photos AirMiles! I checked out the Siphon 360 website and read how they’re designed to induce a draft. There’s a funnel inside to direct water down into the tanks. https://lci-support-doc.s3.amazonaws...cd_0001583.pdf
In Post #6, dzwiss said he found the tank stack pipe didn’t extend high enough into the vent which makes sense and would allow water to leak under the roof.
Putting a cap on like you did would prevent water from entering the vent. Are you concerned that a cap on the top will prevent it from working as designed?
I did seal the bathroom vent base today but suspect the leak was coming from the tank stack vent because it’s on the higher side of the ceiling and closer to the toilet than the bathroom vent. I’d really like to see if the vent stack pipe fits inside the Syphon 360 but not sure I want to tackle that right now.
Thinking back, I found water on the floor of our old FC23FB after washing the roof and accidentally spraying water at the stack vent.

Are you concerned that a cap on the top will prevent it from working as designed?
Not at all. The vents are just to let air into the pipe so the water will drain and not get vapor locked. There's still plenty of air that can get into the pipe with the PVC cap in place. There's more air going into the pipe than with the commercially available vent caps of the same design. My only concerns would be that mud dabbers will like that nice covered space to nest and by gluing on the PVC cap there is no access to the pipe anymore. But if I need to access the pipe, I'd just cut off the top and replace it with a commercially available vent cover.
I did this fix as an emergency repair the first time. It worked so well that I decided to just keep the 4" PVC caps in place. I will put these same 4" PVC caps on my new Globetrotter to eliminate this possible leak before it becomes a problem. My biggest fear is that the vents are leaking and just getting the insulation wet or the floor wet without dripping into the Airstream.

Same leak in my 25FB. Only in heavy downpours. From what I've read, the leak is most likely coming from tank vent above the bathroom fan. So today I popped it off and sure enough found the little reducer cone sitting in the pipe, not adhered to the cap like the instructions clearly state. Replaced the vent with a new one I ordered with the cone glued in. When I get a chance, I'll pop the other tank vent off and check that one too. Hopefully this solves the problem.

Was there a gap between that black rubber ring and the black pipe? It looks like there is a gap in your picture. If that rubber ring isn't sealed tightly against the pipe, that is how the water is getting into the Airstream.

When I find a problem like this, I usually email Brad in the service department as to what is going on. They will get to the factory guys sooner or later as they don't want the problem to fix either.
bherring@airstream.com
Brad Herring is the service manager.

James, thanks for the photo and what you found. If I understand correctly, the cone should be glued to the bottom of the cap? If so, couldn’t you just use the one you had? Sorry for the questions but I’m trying to visualize how it should be assembled.
Also, I think AirMiles is correct about sealing the gaps.
Today I pulled the wood panel that covers the stack pipe in the bathroom and could shake it at the top which makes me think it’s not a rigid connection to the vent cap.
From the number of people chiming in, this is not an isolated problem.
