Vent fan wiring?

Our '67 Safari has one old, possibly original, roof vent fan and the Fantastic Fan that I installed. Since I am rewiring everything now, I noticed that the old fan has red and black wires. This was wired with black wire going to black and white going to red. Normally in DC I would expect that when there are red and black wires, red is positive and black is negative even though when there are white and black wires, white is negative and black is positive. Should I leave it connected black to black and white to red?
Thanks!
Jim

Black is hot on mine. I guess it depends on which direction fan spins.

On the original red is hot, black to ground. The new system the white is ground and the black is hot. So.... Old red to new black. Old black to the new white for grounds. If you are rewiring it all new, I suggest you run white/black to each, individual, fixture. Then the grounds all to a common grounding bus.
