vent fan

I have a 1960 trade wind and took out the upper fan and re did it to solve a leak. It ran good and I didn't oil or do anything to the fan. It now makes a noise like a rattle after about 5 min. Anyone know if I can put grease or oil somewhere to help it. If so what kind? and where? I have a photo of the fan if that would help
thanks Judy

Sounds like the problem I had with mine. I would suspect they are of similar design.
The bolts that hold the motor halves together are also the mounting points on the bracket. The bearings were loose in the housing. They fit on the motor shaft OK but the blades made the whole thing vibrate. Oiling and greasing didn’t change the rattle after it ran for a while.
A normal person would have bought a new motor. However since I tend not to fit that description I split the housing and added another thin piece of felt to the existing one under the spring washer and lower bearing. Then I added a touch of Moly grease to the bearings and put it back together.
Two years and still quiet. I probably just got lucky.
Tom.
