To Replace or Not Replace ( dome and fan )

I've read through a bunch or threads about replacing the roof vents with Fantastic Fans or Maxxair. The fan in my ven def needs replacement and the plastic is completely gone, but after looking at some videos of the Fantastic fan installation, I'm having second thoughts about hacking up the shell.

I'm wondering, for my 77 Sovereign is there any other approach? Is it possible to get an existing fan assembly and just swap that out? the dome is also cracked, so I would need to replace that as well. Just trying to save my self as much of a pain in the ass as I can.

The old fan motor sound like a train, anyone had any success just replacing the fan motor?

Was also thinking/wondering if it would be possible to mount a new fan/vent over the entire existing airstream vent like just use the top part of the Fantastic, but maintain the existing airstream vent

First thing I would do is check the voltage. Older Univolt put out 19 volts DC to the fans and range hoods. So you may have to change out you converter first to get 12 volts.

See this thread.

Replacing the entire vent is the easy way to go, but if you want to preserve as much of the original vent as possible, you can piece it together.

I replaced my front and rear original vents with Maxxfan Deluxes and am very happy with the results. It was one of the easier upgrades in the entire project.
