Excellent tips. We’re your skylights the same size as the post above yours? 22.75X22.75 and 17.75X26.25. What year and model trailer did you do the install on?

I have Maxim skylights on order and am waiting for them to arrive. I’ve been reading up to prepare for the instal and this thread has good information. One thing I noticed was Maxim recommended using a Neutral Cure adhesive sealant. My first thought was to use Sikaflex 221 but its not the right choice in this case. Going with Silco RTV7500 instead

It was our 2019 TB FB 27. I think those are the correct dimensions (one is square, one is rectangular)

TEST RESULTS - We took it up to N. CA and ran into a ton of rain, both while driving and camping. It was completely water tight! Also ran into a major wind storm and no issues at all (not that they were expected). Finally took it boon docking in AZ in 90+ clear, sunny skies. The lowered heat gain was remarkable! No more "magnify glass on ant" feeling at all! I highly recommend this improvement!

Mine have been installed for 10 years. No leaks. There are, of course, tiny scratches from cleaning and normal use. Some of the corners of the dome poly have developed small surface micro-cracks, or checking in the very corners where the dome meets the frame corners. I don't think it is a big deal. They have been there for several years. Only cleaned with plain water no chemicals nor detergents.

I then took the washers off the Palram wood screws and put them on the crown bolts. A self tapping fastener with EDPM washer. No drill needed now!!!

Just an FYI,, when i installed our new maxium in 2015 after removing the old thin cover with all the screws I used a file to get the area where the screw holes had created a the extra metal to raise up above the frame to make sure everything was nice and flat..

I then used some 120 grit sandpaper to rough up the top of the flange and applied a bead of Sil Flex RTV 7500 adheave on top of flange, set the new skylight done on the bead and pressed lightly to make sure it was on the bead completely.. let it dry and now some 6 plus year and 25K miles of towing from east coast to west coast and back NOT one problem..

you don't need a bunch of screws on the top.. actually you don't need ANY screws.. the adhesive will work fine.. good luck..

I just installed a Maxim after my original skylight was damaged by hail. I ordered 2 layers of light gray (they were out of dark gray - the two layers of light gray let in the same amount of light transmission as the single white or single dark gray but let you see out). I couldn’t feel any heat from the Colorado sun radiate through. It looks as dark as the original but much cooler. I also chose anodized (vice natural) aluminum for the frame. It doesn’t look much different from bare aluminum but will hopefully be a little more durable. Wish I had done this earlier!

Old saying: "Better late than never!" We did Maxim skylights as part of the first of many modifications after delivery.

Coming up on 10 years in the Classic and 9 years on the 23D.

Congrats Switz! We put our Maxim's on 10 years ago (post #140) and they've been one of the best upgrades we've done! They really help with the temp control in the trailer.
