2007 Safari with identical vent fans in shower and bathroom. My question is, how do you remove them to clean them?

After using our shower vent for several months the fine mesh screen clogged with dust. Using a vacuum cleaner with a small brush device attached to the hose cleaned the screen quickly without having to remove anything.

Hi, I posted this somewhere else, but I guess it is just as easy to post it again. Due to the fact that the rotary switch is installed from the outside of the screen and the wires do not have a connector, I used to remove two screws holding the handle and then two more screws holding the screen. Next I would kink my neck while holding the screen with one hand and a vacuum cleaner and/or a brush in the other hand. WHAT A PAIN.

Since then, I have changed the cheap plastic rotary switch with a nice toggle switch. Both my wife and I like the toggle switch much better. Now since the toggle switch goes through the top of the screen, with a nut on the bottom, it is much easier to do. I still remove the two screws holding the handle and the two screws holding the screen, but now I remove the nut holding the much nicer toggle switch and the screen is free to take to a brush, a vacuum cleaner, or the water hose for a really clean screen.

Bob, You're right - those powered vents are a real 'pain' to take apart to just clean the screen!

I installed a complete new unit when we got our AS a couple of years ago, and it recently up and quit!

I started to dismantle it from the inside as your pic's show, and found that the cheapo push button switch was 'open' - a real disappointment, as we never even use that switch - it's 'ON' all the time and we always use the remote switch in the rear bath wall instead...

Instead of looking around for another switch (your toggle looks good), I just 'shorted' across the cheapo switch so it's 'ON' all the time...

When I had the screen out of ours, I turned on the fan and squirted the fan cage with some electrical contact cleaner (spray can) to remove the dirt and blow it onto the roof, where I then hosed it off...

That little fan really moves some air, and is a valuable appliance to keep up and running!
