Roof vent hand cranks

Hello again,

We have a 1968 Tradewind and I am in need of the hand cranks for opening my roof vents. I am trying to provide some ventilation for the Land Yacht during the summer, while it is not in use. We have it under a carport. Just wondering if anyone knows of a source for the hand cranks? Also curious as to what others do for ventilation during the summer months when not using the Airstream? At this time we do not have window screens. Many thanks for all your help!

Did you ever gear back from anyone regarding hand cranks? Cause I'm in need of new ones, also and I cannot locate any.

skylight handle

Me too. I'm missing my front handle. I guess the previous owner broke it because it is seized in the closed position.

Please let me know if you find any. I need about three of them and can't locate.

Inland RV has a replacement lift. Not sure it will work or not.

I went and checked out Inland RV parts and no that is not the simple little plastic handle I am looking for. That was metal, many pieces, and looked VERY involved. If anyone hears of any other place for me to check out I'd really appreciate it. A simple plastic handle to turn to open my roof vents. The inside is plastic "gear" that is stripped out and won't grasp to the metal part of vent crank that hangs down from vent. Thank you.

I broke the crank on my MaxxFan by accidentally over-tightening it while closing the vent in preparation for Hurricane Isaac. A call to the manufacturer had them sending me a replacement. Cost more for shipping than to buy the part, but worth it to avoid the hassles of hunting one up locally.

Can't go wrong by going direct to the manufacturer. Should be contact information in the owner's manual. If you don't have an owner's manual, looking up the model online should get you to the manufacturer's webpage, where they'll have contact information listed as long as they're still in business.

Say, Pro: I wonder if the hand cranks for the Maxxfan would fit? Mine has a screw going right up the center of the handle. Maybe I should check trailer house manufactures. Man. I lived in a single wide years ago and that's exactly how the windows shut. I pry had 30 cranks lying around back then.

Wingman,

Sorry I missed seeing your original post to this thread. My window/vent crank handles sound like you describe, but mine are metal. The knurled piece is also metal that the handle slips onto with a screw in the middle of the handle that holds it on. This is the original crank Handle to my 68 Tradewind. I would check to see if you could find someone that is parting out a Coach like yours or check with someone that does Airstream Restoration who may have various parts from other Trailers. Hope I have been of some help!

Can you post a pic of the crank and what it attaches to?

Have you tried 'Vintage Trailer Supply"? They have some that work on my '75 - might work for you.

Most RV parts and service places I have visited have an assortment of the metal ones with a screw going right up the centre of the handle. They vary by how much of an angle the bend in the crannk is, they all have the same spline.

Have you looked in any?
