Replacing roof vent

I am replacing my fiberglass roof vent. Does anyone know how to remove these? How does the le deux mechanisms come out? Do I have to drill out the rivets from the existing vent, then rivet the new one in? I am replacing it with an acrylic one from Inland.
Thanks

Steve

Steve,
Come on down and take look. I just did the very same thing a few weeks ago.
The lifting mechanism is held on it's bracket by two pins in the lower section of the barrel, and a horseshoe clamp up top. You need to just spread the lower bracket a bit, and it should pop right out.
The attachment to the actual lid is by rivets. Drill out teh old ones, and use new pop rivets and sealer for the new ones.

Hey Uwe, Thanks for the invite, I would like to come by and see your progress. I noticed that you installed a sleek refer vent. I remove my heater vent and am in the process of replacing the refer vent. I like the looks of yours. I did pry the bottom bracket, but I couldn't get it to pop off, I didnt want to force it. I'll give it another try. I got rid off some other projects so I'm back restoring the Overlander! We got a trip planned for
Thanksgiving!

Thanks

Steve

Steve,
I can show you the bracket and lifter mechanism. I have spares at the crime scene.
Come on over, I should be around most of the week.

6 years without a post and this thread still saved my bacon! Thanks guys...I couldn't see an easy way to pop the vent on my '63 and was about to start bending stuff...but remembered somewhere on the Forums...

Those little pins sure did look like rivets...
