Replacement fan motor ???

Where can you find a replacement fan motor for the original roof vent on a 76 Argosy? I like the vent operation,and bracket assembly, but the motor is kaput. I'm not inclined to replace with a fantastic fan assembly just yet.

That motor is available from a few dealers that stock parts.

I'm not ready to do Fantastic Fans either (although they are an outstanding product). Any day now I will receive new motors for just the purpose you posted about today.

The motors I ordered are, however, different from the ones offered by Airstream & OoDM in that the mounting shafts are on the opposite end of the motor than the original. Functionality, though, is the same. Cost is lower.

I plan a post to my blog regardless of whether or not my experiment is successful.

The correct mounting for the original vent fan motor, is on the top of the 2 brackets. That requires the studs in the motor to be at the opposite end of the motor shaft.

That's how Airstream has had them, for at least 40 years.

Possibly, a dealer may have a similair motor that they don't obtain from Airstream.

How about the quality? The motor from Airstream has been known to last 30 to 40 years.

Yes, that is the way Airstream did it for 40 years, and it is wrong from a motor longetivity standpoint. Think "revolving mass on the end of a moment arm". That's why motors are not commonly sold in that configuration nowadays.

As far as quality, would you believe that Airstream sent me the original motor specs, and the motors I have selected exceed the original requirements soley because of the modern day materials now available for their construction?

One of Airstream's main stays, is why change some thing, if it's worked for many years.

They still buy some parts from a Hardware store in Jackson Center, for the parts department.

Oh well. So be it.
