Question replace an old vent with a window

ONe of the vents on my '64 Safari ripped off one day and I would like to replace the hole with a piece of plexiglass or something to create a skylight.
ANy suggestions? how do I properly seal it? How much body weight can the roof hold up with out denting it?
Thanks very much for any info!

What size is the opening. Would a fantastic fan with cover work.

Plexiglass is not intended to be exposed to the sun.

If so, it will crack and craze rather quickly.

Lexan does not have that same problem.

Fantastic makes an unpowered vent you can install in place of your old vent. They have a smoke colored cover that lets a lot of light in, and it's still functional as a vent, albeit without a fan. Here's a link to an article on how to replace your old one with a Fantastic, you just won't have to wire it:

Concur with Overlander63, I replaced my original vent (albiet modified at some point by a PO with a piece of fogged-out plexiglas in the center vent cover) with a fantastic vent. They come with a tinted vent cover and a two-way multi-speed fan. Quiet, reliable, good value and the unit lets light in...

Good luck!
