Refer vent screen or not?

Putting on the new vent now . Thought I would replace the real cool wooden one the PO had up there. I looked in the forum about screen and did not see anything. So is it screen or no screen?

Unless you screen the louvers on the access door (like my ’83 Excella), if you have those, what’s the point in screening the top vent? My ’67 Trade Wind has a solid access door, but the opening in the floor is “screened” with “hardware cloth,” a term that describes essentially very course screen. In my case, it is about 3/16” and is hardly a barrier to insects.
