one more fantastic fan question
On our 2012 25 ft Flying Cloud I can only raise the FF cover manually to turn the fan on. So I am looking for ideas on what might be wrong and what road I should go down to fix it. If it is the switch how do I get to it to check it out and/or replace it. Also could it be short and if so what do I have to remove to check for it.
thanks

IIRC, on my fantastic fans the knob gets pushed up to engage the vent lift motor, and pulled down to operate manually.
It’s not reachable right now, or I would verify that statement...

You are correct the knob has to be engaged with the motor for it to work with the switch. However if it is not engaged you turn it on one will still hear the motor trying to open the FF. That said the motor does not make any sound when it is engaged or not engaged.

one more fantastic fan question
Time to break out the multimeter and start figuring out what went out inside the guts of the fan unit.

It may be that the worm gear has jumped a tooth or two and the limit switch has not cycled.

If this was the case would you not still hear the motor trying to engage? I hear nothing when I turn on the switch

The newer Fantastic Fans the motors do not require the knob to be engaged to raise or lower the dome. The knob is always engaged and when you open or closed the dome manually you are turning the motor and gears in the motor.

I had the same issue. I called Fantastic Fan and they shipped a new motor free and fast. That did the job. Easy swap out.

Well I went over the electrical connections in the FF. Everything works fine when it is on manual. I can raise the hood, run the fan at variable speeds etc. However I cannot get any power when it is on electrical. I believe a portion of the motherboard has quit. Here are some photos.
Based on my readings the two red wires next to each that are attached to the Motherboard do not appear to be getting any electrical power. They are the wires that run directly to the switch that turns on the motor to raise and lower cover. I am not sure what else to check and as it runs manually is it worth replacing the motherboard or any other part of the fan.
Thanks

Only if the switch is in the run position. If in the 'limit' mode the motor will not run.
Disclaimer...that is how ours works, 2003 Classic.

Here is a diagram that Airstream sent me when I was installing a different rocker switch so I could reverse my fan. Not sure if you have the same model?

In your first picture, the motor assy. looks like it's wet or has been wet. Is this true? If so the motor may have rusted frozen. If it is frozen, you have either a leak or bad rain sensor.
After verifying the motor assy., go up on the roof and check the sealant around the entire fan. Also look at ALL of the screws holding the fan to the roof, remove the sealant if needed. Chances are good that there is a crack in the frame, and the factory "fixed" it with more sealant.
I replace mine with a Maxx Fan, and am happy with it.
Good Luck!
Drew

If you've already tested the lid motor with a 12VDC source, check the rest of the circuit next. There's a switch at the hinged end of the lid, very similar if not exact to the interior door light switches used on some cars in the 60's and on some of the add-on vehicle alarms. It's just a plunger that closes or allows current to flow when released and opens, i.e., disconnects when depressed. Remove the interior surround/trim from the fan--on our 2017 it's held in place by about a dozen screws--and you'll see it. Check the wire that's attached to it and if that's OK, verify that it's making contact when the plunger is fully extended. These can fail to make contact due to dirt on the contact surfaces or a rusted internal spring that's given it up.

urnmor....Give Fantastic Fan customer service a call. Their service folks have been very helpful in the past in resolving problems with their fans.
