Hi Folks! I know I'll get a lot of responses on this post. I've seen and read the same post several times, but a lot are older postings. Ok, we just bought a new 2016 International 30ft which has one Fantastic fan (due to the dual ACs/50amp). 1. Does anyone know which Maxxair model best fits the new models and allows for maximum opening of the Fantastic vent cover? 2. I believe it takes 4 screws drilled into the Fantastic vent cover mount (not the roof)? 3. Is it OK for me to climb on the roof myself to install?

I have the standard Maxxair on the rear and the Maxxair II on the front. I do not think opening 1 inch or less makes a bit of difference as far as a normal person would be able to tell. Unless you have calibrated laboratory instruments available.

Yes, 4 screws to mount. You can pre download the mounting instructions from the Maxxair web site.

Yes, climb away. Stay on the ribs and totally off the end caps.

I also have one of those mystery tools. When I ask someone said it had something to do with the sink fixture. I never found anything it seemed to fit.

Fantastics response has always been "no covers!" I have owned many different RV's with Fantastic vents and I have never used a cover nor had a problem. If you have a rain sensor, what's the need? And I think that they are all ugly, especially when they get dirt and discolored.

It's OK to get up on roof just stay on ribs. I added the Fantastic Fan specific covers and they requires no drilling, just replaced existing screw with clips and pins allowing for easy removal for cleaning. I love them as it allows me to drive with vents open keeping the inside a little cooler and also open in rain. I am sure the Maxxair models work as well. I know the FF Covers does allow the vents to open fully. Not sure on the Maxxair.

Oh, put plenty of padding around ladder when leaning it up against your trailer.

Fantastic makes a cover, and I would recommend you use it. They are called Ultra Breeze, and come in Black, Smoke, and White.

Because the cover closes at the slightest drizzle- even dew will close it. Then you have no ventilation.

I changed out my FFs for MaxxAir fans and couldn't be happier.

I don't yet have my AS, but I recently added two vent covers over my Fantastic Fans on my FunFinder. Fantastic Fan has their own model (Ultra Breeze) that has much greater airflow than the others. I bought mine from Camping World which got me $16 (per fan/vent) installation, so not worth my time installing them, although they do attach easaily using the existing mounting screws for the Fantastic Fan itself. The parts guy at CW told me that the Ultra Breeze is the only cover that won't burn out your fan motor from too much airflow resistance. I'm extremely happy with my setup!

Pick the one you like, they are one of the best improvements you can do to your Airstream; ventilation rain or shine or going down the road. Never a concern the rain sensor system will fail (which they do).

We have the MaxxAir in back and MaxxAir II on front because we think it's the best looking. Although it will slightly keep the lid from topping out, it will provide as much or more airflow as any.

Very easy to install, you can do it from a ladder on the side, no need to go on the roof.

That looks like the tool that is used to secure the faucet nuts to the studs of the faucet. Look under the sink and see if you would need a deep socket type tool to remove the faucet. It could be a priceless tool if you need one.

one reason some of use covers is the standard fan lid doesn't hold well during heavy hail storms, also the covers protect the lids from UV rays during the summer, around here it can get over 110 for weeks which really hurts thinner plastic and I really like having the vents open even during a heavy rain storm

When you need to use a ladder against your trailer, try using a 2" swimming noodle. Cut a 12 to 15" length over the part of the ladder against the trailer. You may need to notch out part of the noodle, for the foot rails. This method will prevent creases and dents.

Exactly. Whoever said "no cover" probably hasn't lived or camped in Texas. I've had to keep my vent open in as much as four inches of overnight rain.

+1 on the Ultrabreeze, for the reasons stated. Installation couldn't be easier. Here's a short blog post that contains instructions.

I've been thinking about getting vent covers as well and googled this question which brought me to an Air Forum post of July 2016 with this very helpful youtube link.
