You supposedly can run down the road with the vent lid open. I have not done so, mainly because I have heard that it increases the dirt/dust inside. Your results may vary.

Our Airstream came with the Fantastic. After I burn it up by using the wrong vent cover I will take a good look at the Maxxair fan!

We run down the road with the Fantastic fan lid open under our Maxxair all the time. Always have unless it is cold out. Never any trouble or excess dust.

I have Fantastic fans & Fantastic fan vent covers on my 2013 27" FB Flying Cloud. I hardly ever close the vents, whether camping or moving down the road. No excess dirt or dust in my rig. I'm with a few others on here.....I don't understand the issue.......

Thanks everyone - Good news on the open vent front. I think in the end I will buy the Fantactic fan covers as they go with the fan I have. I'm sure the maxair units are also great. I'm just a (set) sort of person.

Anyway thanks for the info and now with luck someone will post a few images to give me an idea of what the different colors look like once mounted.

Cheers
Doug

YEah.... well.... if you remove the standard bug screens from the MaxxAirs... or install a bug screen (not included) on an Ultrabreeze... that video might not be so impressive.

I have bug screens on the Ultrabreeze and it still performs better than my Maxx Air did.

One of these days, when I'm real bored, I'm going to get this out...

http://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Weathe...t+weather+wm-2

...and measure wind speed, both pushing in and pulling out, with the MaxxAir II on and off, and answer this OLD question once and for all.

I bought it for balancin my stick house A/C registers, but should provide some good info for this question as well.

Interesting. The video is helpful. I did notice that there seems to be a small gap between the cover and the roof because of the 4 brackets. Is this big enough to let bugs through, even if I add the bug-screen? If so, what would solve this - some silicone sealant?

Also - do the black covers look ridiculous on an Airstream. I'm thinking of one for the bedroom. I'm a bat when it comes to sleep.

Don't silicone them down. You'll need to clean inside them once in awhile. The screens aren't really for bugs, theres a screen on the FF for that. The screens keep out leaves and big trash. The gap around the base doesn't really let in a lot of trash.
