MaxxAir II Vent Cover over Fantastic Fan successful installation

I just installed a MaxxAir II Vent Cover over a Fantastic Fan in a 2007 19 foot Safari SE Bambi.

Although the MaxxAir II Vent Cover is not recommended for installation over a high speed fan, the company does post suggestions on how to do this under certain circumstances (i.e. space limitations due to obstructions on the roof).

The installation was very easy. Installing onto the Fantastic fan required #6 1/2 inch self-tapping stainless steel screws. These were available at my hardware store.

The installation instructions were easy to follow, but the step involving marking the holes to drill into the Fantastic Fan mount required me to get up on the roof. I felt that the whole thing would be simplified if I made a cardboard template instead. I held the cardboard up to the mounting brackets, marked the holes, then transferred these marks to the Fantastic Fan using the template. This meant that I only had to lean on the wall of the trailer, rather than contort myself to get up on the roof.

After drilling the holes, I used an electric screwdriver to start the self-tapping screws, then finished the tightening by hand.

I installed one MaxxAir II Vent Cover over the Fantastic Fan, and another over the standard passive vent in under 30 minutes.

Right after I installed the MaxxAir II Vent Covers, it began to rain. I was able to operate the Fantastic Fan in the rain without rain getting into the trailer.

The MaxxAir II does not allow the vent cover on the Fantastic Fan to open fully. It opens to about 40 degrees, rather than the full 50 or so. My Fantastic Fan senses this obstruciton and stops opening, avoiding any damage to the cover or motor. The volume of air expelled by the Fantastic Fan seems to be the same as with the cover fully open.

Glad that it worked out for you.
I just can't get my head around the look of those things though.
They don't look very streamlined to me.

Hi longdog,
You mention:

"...the company does post suggestions on how to do this under certain circumstances (i.e. space limitations due to obstructions on the roof)"

Do you remember where you came across such suggestions?
I've been looking for a solution to this vent in my AS roof

Any info, greatly appreciated!
