Loosening Vent Handles and Aluminum Vent Replacement

Hi, all:

One more question:

I have three vents in the 66' Ambassador: two square fan vents and one air-only larger rectangular vent with rounded corners.

When travelling, the old vent cinch-down handles rattle loose. After replacing the very expensive larger Astrodome plastic type vent last year, the handles loosened and it ripped off in the wind while travelling last week.

I don't want to make Andy too rich. So:

1) What can I apply to the handles to prevent loosening, other than a permanent glue? and
2) Didn't the larger rectangle used to be aluminum? The other two square fan vents are aluminum. Is there an aluminum rectangular vent out there for the larger rectangular vent cover?

Thanks. Last question for awhile. Jesse.

The 14×25 vent on my 59 was originally translucent, I don't think they were ever aluminum.

Have you ever cleaned the crank operators? Usually they become dirty and jam shut.
Maybe they have too much lubrication?

Smile Hi

Have you tried some lock tite for the set screws on the handle? Use blue type it will hold the screw but will not harden. Otherwise drill and install a split pin or a carter key .

I have a 64 tradewind and one of my vents does the exact same thing. I had to tie it down so i didn't lose the cover. Hopfully someone wil have a fix that is cheaper than replacing the lifters.

Hi Jesse,
I have the same vent covers & risers on my 64 Safari.
The square vents have aluminum covers, the astrodome is white plastic.

Mine also came open during travel.

I simpy bought 3 small, short 1/4" bungee cords with hooks at either end.
When I close the trailer up for travel, I hook one end to each handle kitty corner across the vent.
They pull against each other preventing the handles from loosening.
They haven't come open since....5000+ miles later.

Simple, but works on mine,
