Installing a new Astrodome

We have the replacement Astrodome from Inland and would like to attempt the install. Can someone link or point out the most in depth thread or posting of this procedure. We have found may postings on this and are reading all the threads for complete directions. Thanks in advance.

Did you find a good source for installation instructions? I'd like a link to this as well. I bought the astradome from VTS, but i imagine the installation is the same, pretty much. My Astradome didn't come with any screws or rivets. I'm not sure whether its better to use screws? Rivets? Which size? And which size drill bit to make the installation holes? So many questions!

Did not find them yet but I know they are out there. We'll give this a bump and those in the know may direct us and answer your questions. When at a desktop computer this weekend I will google "Installing an Astrodome in Airstream" in a variety of ways and it will lead us to the various posts that may help us.

When you search, do 2 searches, "astrodome" and "astradome." I think Airstream originally spelled it with the A.

Google search will probably pick up the spelling difference, but it's worth a shot.

Use 1/8 inch all aluminum pop rivets.

You can use either # 46 or # 48 pop rivets.

Have the rivet head on the exterior of the cover.

Seal the rivet head with a little Parbond sealer.

Drill the holes with # 30 drill bit SLOWLY.

Thanks for the input Andy.

PS it was a pleasure to meet you last week and your referral to Aircraft Spruce for Cleco's worked out great.

I found this today. The dome in the photos is different than my VTS one, so I'm assuming it's the one from Inland? Anyway, hope this helps. http://home.hiwaay.net/~tomorkim/Solardome.htm

I'm still trying to solve many puzzles relating to Hehr vent cover installation and window replacement, so it's back to Google for me.

Edited to add: they definitely used the dome from Inland. Duh. It says it right there in their install description.

It's not a total help for me as I'm using a different astradome and different lifters as well. Currently trying to figure out exactly where to attach my lifters. I keep coming upon install instructions that talk about the VTS domes having a piece of metal in them where you attach the lifts. Mine definitely has no metal in it. I feel like I shouldn't be as confused as I am since I've conquered much harder projects. Maybe I'm having an off day.

We finally installed our Astrodome and added it to our "65 TW Henrietta" thread. Was not as difficult as we anticipated.

Sorry for the delay in answering you, we posted about it on our thread titled, *'65 TWIND Revitalizing Henrietta*

If you do a search in regular google with that title you will find our thread and it will take you to the forums.

If you also do a regular Google search for installing Astrodome you will find several other's threads. When searching google I spelled astrodome several ways to get maximum results.

Sorry I don't know how to post the link here for you.

We will soon be doing another install of the Astrodome in our 62 Ambassador so we will be re-researching also. Good luck.

Since we are on the subject of domes, does anyone know a good source for the gasket that sits in the channel that the dome lowers onto to seal the opening?

I had to replace both my domes due to sun/ UV damage. I removed each dome and cleaned the joints. I aligned the new dome with the opening and marked the screw placements and I used a really good silicone sealant as the joint gasket. I re-screwed the dome and I used the same silicone on the screw heads to also help to keep weather out. Neither of mine were riveted on and were very easy to remove and replace. I couldn't believe how much more light came in thru them. I used the smoked colored domes.
