FF's can be manually opened as well. I routine leave both mine open while at the house. In warm weather, I crack them open and leave them open while towing to help keep the trailer ventilated. Works fine.

Fan-tastic does not recommend using Maxxair covers. i believe the reason is due to the increased noise level from the fan.

i'll just put in here that when i called them to replace the little kidney shaped lift motor holder and i mentioned that the trim from the 1994 install was chipping apart, they sent me a new motor, new lift motor holder, trim frame, control frame with the switches and a new lift arm, ALL FOR FREE!

the money i expected to spend, will go to a new fan or two. the one for the bathroom, sounds like a much needed improvement.

We have two FF's in our 22' Safari. The first one we ordered with the trailer in the back ovwer the galley. It blows out only and when asked why that was we were told that if it were to be reversable we could blow in fumes from the tank vents. We then installed a reversable FF in the front over our bed and intalled the MaxiVent cover. We can leave it open when it rains and also in the summer when on the road to help keep the interior cool. Since then we have used the AC only once!

What ever brand you get (Max & FF) are both good, take time to notice the location of your pluming vent relative to the fan. If the fan is near it, consider just running that one on exhaust. If you use fan on "intake" near the vent and the wind is going the wrong way (or sometimes you don't need a wind ) you may get a bit of "aroma" from the blackwater tank. Just a small comment to keep

One thing you CAN do to reduce the heat coming through your skylights even thoug the shade is closed is to get some of that siver colored bubble window insulator - they sell it in rolls at Camping World - it's the stuff they make the windshield sunshades from. You can cut it to fit the sky-light and it makes a HUGE difference. That way you can still get light on cool days.

good point on the tank vents. also, if you flush when you're pulling a lot of air you can draft in some 'scent' from the toilet!

I can attest to that! The bubble stuff works great!

Hi, Argy 78. I know you already made up your mind, but I thought about having two Fantastic Fans and found out that one works just fine. I turn on the front Fantastic Fan and open the rear vent; Almost as much air that is being pushed out the front is being sucked into the rear vent. This is usually done with windows and the door closed. With two you could reverse the flow of air from front to rear and then from rear to front, but I would only use one at a time especially if you are boondocking. My Fantastic Fan only blew outward; I E-mailed Fantastic Vent Inc. and they sent to me a kit to make my fan blow both ways. [FOR FREE.....................FANTASTIC]

Another option for moving air inside your trailer is the Endless Breeze portable fan. It's light weight and runs on 12 volts.

We have three ffs - and I agree with Michelle that the bathroom one works great. The original bathroom fan is worthless. Mine have the rain sensors, but there is something about the operation I do not yer understand.

As for the skylights - we love the light they give. When there is too much heat, we use some alum insulation cut to fit and just stuff it up there above the shade - and close the shade.

Are you suggesting that I use one FF and keep the windows open with the assistance of a Endless Breeze type fan that this would provide adequate air movement to cool the TT and if so would it be best to place the FF in the center of the TT to draw air from all directions and be-able to open the front and rear vents when traveling and when not at the TT for any length of time?
*The front and rear vents have the old style Maxx vents on them, if I instal the FF in the center I would replace the other two top vents covers with the newer Maxx vent covers, which allow more air flow, for my original vents. Also the newer Maxx vents are a driect replacement for the older Maxx vents.

Why not take a ride over to Imlay City and talk to Bob Beratta at Fantastic Vent? He will fix you right up, advice and installation. At least give him a call, he is the Airstream specialist and a great guy. They have installed three FF in the past in different models for us.

We removed the Fantastic Fans and replaced with the new MaxxAir Fans. It's the same type of fan, but, with a built-in cover that folds more flush with the top of the trailer. When open it provides it's own rain shelter. They were very easy to install, and fit the standard opening. The only glitch is the one for the bathroom because it's on the curve of the roof...it is a bit more difficult to open because of the resistance created when the frame tweaked across the curve of the roof.
Weather permitting, we open the front window and use the fan in the bedroom to draw the air through the trailer. This only works if the air outside the window is comfortably cool.
Also, the fans work great when cooking since they move large volumes of air very quickly. Just remember to open a window when using the fan.
These fans will work to move air in or out, as well as thermostat control.
