HELP - How to turn on vent fan?

I cannot locate the switch to activate this vent fan in my 54 FC. I thought perhaps the pull chain that opens the exterior vent would activate it but it is a separate device. Fan wires enter the wall headed upward but there is no obvious switch in the cabinet above or on the ceiling. What am I missing?

Any chance a fuse is blown or missing?
Are you able to get an owner's manual from AS support?

Is there a group of switches somewhere else, like at the door? Maybe the fan switch is part of those.

When you open the vent slowly, do you hear a click, like a switch is activating? Maybe the switch is bad

When the vent is open, have you checked for power at the fan? Maybe the fan is bad or isn't grounded (I'm assuming a 12vdc fan).

If it were me, I'd run a jumper wire to the fan to confirm the fan actually works. Then I'd inspect the mechanism that opens the vent to see if there is a switch that closes when the vent has opened. Maybe the vent isn't closing that switch, not traveling far enough.

All fuses are good (old school screw in glass type).
No manuals exist for 1950's trailers.
The only switch I have found in the trailer is by the door and controls only the porch light.
I have taken apart the housing and the pull chain and vent opening are not connected to anything electrical.
I plan to bench test the fan but wires are sealed and need to be cut in order to remove the fan. Simplest test would be to turn on the d*** switch if only I could find it :-)

There should be a switch that is activated when the lid is opened. Check between the frame and the lid for the switch, which is probably stuck in the closed position.

Flap open with a pull chain. Will search interface between frame and lid.

Tks.

That's what I was thinking, a limit switch. When the vent is pulled open the edge comes in contact with a momentary switch. There's a connection only when the vent blade presses on it. Release the chain, blade retracts and the switch opens.

Switch may be bad (or bad connection)
Vent blade may not be reaching the switch to close it; adjust the vent blade or switch to bring them closer together.

These type of vent fans were common in older mobile homes and are spring loaded to open when you release the chain. There should be a switch that is likely stuck from grease buildup and may be visible behind the flap from outside.

Not since I bought it in January. Looks original.

Doa

OK, I found the switch and the problem. Switch is good. Fan gets voltage but wiring to fan disintegrated and pulled out of motor. Pretty sure the whole thing is toast. I need either a new motor (to which I can mount the old blades) or a whoel new fan. Opening is 8 inch diameter, fan blades are 7 inch. 110 volt. Ideas?

110 vac? I'm surprised, would have thought it was 12 vdc. How much trouble to convert it?

You can probably find a similar fan online. Get the specs off the old one if you can, search by HP and RPMs if you can. Measure the width and depth, you may have to buy an old fan off of eBay and take the motor out of it.

110 because my old trailer has no 12 volt system.
Was hoping to find a nameplate with HP, RPM, etc. but no such luck...
