Hehr/astrodome hardware needed.

Does anyone have any hehr operators or a donor roof vent I could purchase or have? (see picture robbed from another post)

I'm frabricating a skylite to replace the gutted 14x26 opening in my '64 overlander.

If anyone has an alternative way to open and close, that would be great too.

thanks,
Doug.

P.s. And because I'm sure someone will suggest it, I'm aware that inland sells new operators...I can't justify the $120+ that it would cost for a pair of them.

I,m thinking about installing a Fantastic Fan over the bed and using the hardware from the original fan on my skylight. Have you tried Vintage Trailer Supply - Vintage travel trailer parts and supplies!

If you have big bucks to spend... they come up on ebay from time to time. Andy sells them for so much money that it seems hard to justify (he will at some point soon, right here).
If you get lucky there might be someone in your unit that has some stashed in his barn... that is what happened to me. He might even give them to you because he knows you apreciate the gesture and are grateful... it could happen, happened to me.
Inland does have a great astrodome though. It is called a Solardome, and lets in a great quality light and vents out the hot air that the original ones were intended to do.

The solardomes are 14" x 14".

The astrodomes are 14" x 26".

We have both them in milk white and the more popular "solar gray." Comes with free gaskets, too.

We also have the vent operators made. Ours will not open by themselves like the originals did. Anyone check on what a good machinist charges these days? They control the prices, far more than we do.

Andy

I complimented you and you still had to justify... yes machinists do cost a lot, so do the operators.

From my original post...

If someone has any parts from a donor vent please let me know...

I've already gotten a skylite piece...just need a cost effective way to raise and lower...

If I can't find anything cost effective, I'll just mount it in the closed position.

The guys that have them will most likely be listing them on ebay very soon. I have found that every time someone is looking for something specific on this forum within days it suddenly appears. Be patient the Aluminum gods will help you find them. Have you tried your local unit members? I had a guy is my unit, that is my hero, give them to me... wish he would post soon, so I can give him some much deserved karma.

Hi Doug;

I have a couple of those cranks from the 63 Globe Trotter - they may need some work but you are welcome to them for any parts off them you can salvage...

PM me to pass on your address - if the postage is not overly expensive I will ship them to you as soon as I get your address - unless you already have found a set I think they will fit in a pouch so it should not be too much.

Not sure but I think I might have three!! we had the vent and the astrodome in the 63 but the dome was missing and I think there was only one crank tucked in a drawer and the vent ones were still attached - I will look in the bucket of trinkets saved for this very day but will do it tomorrow....

Hi Doug & Scott

Off to a little slow start today - but will get to the post office tomorrow!

Doug I will need your address send it via my e-mail address or PM me with it and I will get them off to you both tomorrow.

Very cool turns out I had four - I thought I had three - but am missing a knob but that suits Scott just fine....

I have the old furnace still if anyone is interested - that might be a bit much for the plastic bubble envelope but if someone really wants it I will hang on to it - we would like to start cleaning out some of the "junk" soon before the winter hits here hard....

We have the floor brackets for the aluminum fresh water tank too if anyone wants them???

Peter and Sharon,
Hi. I'm new to the forum and I'm loving what I've seen. I too am looking for one crank. I have the knob that goes on the crank, but my 1960 came from the PO completely missing one of the cranks. If you have a 4th extra, I'd love to buy it from you. I'm happy to pay for shipping too. If I'm too late, that's alright. Thanks,

Doug

Hi Doug;

You just missed them - I did actually find an extra crank and sent two to Scott who did say he only needed one - Perhaps if you PM'd Scott he might consider re-routing one of the cranks ...

When we come to looking at our 61 Overlander there will be a few more available - we are replacing both vents in that unit as well with Fantastic Vents...but I will have to go out and check to see if it even has the cranks??? I honestly can not remember..
