I'm thinking I'm going to install a Nicro DayNight solar vent through the existing Hehr vent on our Globetrotter, rather than a fantastic fan (maybe later). The Nicro is self contained and solar powered, and will work while the rig is parked and stored. I thought putting it through the vent made some sense, rather than putting it through the body of the trailer, making a big hole and having to seal it. I'm curious to hear feedback from others about this- is it better to put it through the body, the roof over the rear bathroom, and is it weird to cut a hole in the old Hehr vent. Its all intact and original. Thanks

I'm considering one for the bathroom. They're nice, well made.

But, there is a huge difference between Fantastic Vents and Nicro Vents in terms of the volume of air moved. Fantastic Vents move a ton of air and even on the lowest fan setting, you can really feel it. The Nicro vents move air, but just not at all the same. For just keeping some air moving inside the trailer while in storage I think the Nicro would be fine.

Seems like if you put it in a Hehr vent, you'd have to leave the vent closed for the Nicro to move any air inside the trailer. If you had it open it looks to me like you'd just be moving outside air around the outside of the trailer.

IMHO the Fantastic Vents are just excellent. The work well and their customer service is top notch.

I don't see a problem with it. If you need more air, open the Hehr vent and put a Fantastic fan in one of the others. I have used Nicro solar vents for years for a variety of uses...including boats.

Hi, we have installed one of these in the bathroom of our Avion Travelcader. Works really well. Ours went into an existing round vent hole. Husband suggests possibly taking out your square vent, making a nice waterproof roof panel and going thru that.... doesn't solve the interior ceiling space though. But, a great product, will use again !

Hey.. thanks, its great to get the feedback, especially since I already have the Nicro. I thought I'd eventually move the Nicro in the bath and put a fantastic fan in the existing square hole- the comments I've read hear about Fantastic make it seem like a no-brainer. I just wanted the Nicro to move air while the rig is in storage, and a bit while we're using it, and the solar power is appealing. I was thinking of the Hehr cover as sacrificial, but I also like that its original. The existing fan works, but its just kind of gross and corroded. Thanks!

Those solar vents look very cool, might put one in my bathroom.

Just in case you didn't notice it moves 1,000 cubic feet per HOUR not minute.

Typically Exhaust fans are rated at cubic feet per minute, so if my math and logic are correct, when sunlight is available (not sure how much sunlight is required(?)) we'd be able to pull 16 cubic feet per minute. It will be nothing like a fantastic fan (or similar), which will pull 470 cfm on low to 920 cfm on high (even a typical bathroom exhaust fan pulls 80 to 200 cubic feet per minute).

Not trying to rain on the idea, just wanted to add some reality (at least mine) to the conversation. Still might use it in the bathroom and I'd say it'd be good for keeping air moving during storage.

I think my Globetrotter works out to about 700 cuft of space, give or take, so its not that bad- it's running all the time unless you turn it off. The solar panel charges a battery which, theoretically, runs the thing 8-10 hours. We live in a low fairly low humidity area.. its just to keep the air circulating, not to function like high-cfm bathroom fan.

According to the specifications it can run up to 40 hours on a charge without sunlight. I have two that I use on a small storage building that is roughly 1280 cf. That means I get a complete air change about every 40 minutes. The key, especially when in storage is to keep air moving, it doesn't have to move fast.

So, I got the little bugger installed in the existing vent cover, super easy to do, and it has been churning away, even with gray skies. Best of all, the ventilation seems to work well.. ventilated that musty smell quickly.
