Fantastic Vent reverse switch

I'm thinking of installing reverse switches on both of my Fantastic vents. I am aware of the issues of drawing in sewer gases. The main reason I want to install the reverse switches is create a positive air pressure inside the trailer to look for leaks (with soapy water). Do you think this will do the job?

Nice idea, has several uses imho. Our CCD22 had such a switch on the FF. The the CCD25 didn't. And the reversing switches come a little dear. We asked FF to sell us the switch for one of our two FFs. "Nope, we don't sell the switches for you to install -- we only sell them installed. People will install them wrong, then complain and want warranty coverage for problems they caused."

I'm absolutely not interested in paying the baggage for their business, sorry. Just not my interest. So we don't have reversing switch yet.

But is this really gonna solve the problem you have with odor? I think you might want to investigate (lots of info on this forum) about tracking and resolving the odor's path to the cabin. We've been really lucky in both CCDs, don't have any of this. Friends haven't been so lucky, still seem to struggle with it.

the 2 way stitches are nice, in fact GREAT...

but i don't think it's a smart way to TRY to do the leak testing.

properly sealing UP the unit is the time consuming step

and then an adequate blower is needed (torque/watts/blade size/volume)

this isn't what a ff was designed 2 do.

otoh FF will install JUST the switches in pre existing fans,

in fact the guys from FF installed 1 for me at a rally (i only paid for the switch) for FREE...

and were HAPPY to do the install!

and they were VERY WILLING to let me do it (it's very easy said the tech) but why turn away an expert ?

no way to verify this but the FF tech said the fans they ship a/s INCLUDE the 2 way switch but a/s tosses em out.

i can't imagine them still wasting parts in the current economy but who knows.

there is FACTORY site for FF

and VENDORS (retailers) for FF and the policy about switches may vary for each vendor.

but not selling switches? that's crazy.

if the SWITCH on any of our INSTALLED fans fails or gets broken by the owners...

this would mean NO replacement switches???

I also had a two-way switch installed at a rally by Fantastic Fan. $20, switch and installation. When I replace the rear vent (the next time it disintegrates), it will be with a Fantastic Fan, with the two-way switch.

I bought two switches from Adohen Supply (Fantastic Vent, Fantastic Fan Upgrade Kits, Adohen Supply rv vent) about 1.5yrs ago. The price seemed expensive for a simple DPDT switch (~$25), but at least I didn't have to pay someone to install it. It looks like they are now only offering "kits" that include both the reverse switch and the 3 speed switch. You might call them to see if you can get just the reverse switch.
The installation was pretty easy. I figured out what to do on the first fan. The second fan went quickly.

i've posted photoz of the install somewhere (here) but basically the switch pops out the wires are changed and pops back in...

(as i recall the square inner shroud is unscrewed and dropped about 5 inches to do the wiring stuff< RIGHT behind the switch...)

easy peasy...

We currently have our new AS at the dealer for a leak test. They told us they no longer use the soap method, but now pressurize and use smoke of some sort. Has anyone heard about this?

We ordered a reversible switch for the Fantastic vent in our 06 Safari SE 19' from the Fantastic Vent Florida Distribution Center, (863) 655-2644 ask for Dottie. For some reason we couldn't get it directly from Fantastic Vent. You need to let them know what model of fan you have (rain sensor equipped or not, etc, etc) and they can provide the correct switch. We went from a Model 6000BTA (fully active rain sensor, 3-speed w/thermal element) to a 6000RBTA, which was everything plus a reversible fan. It was about $40 with shipping if I remember right. They send wiring diagrams for both the original and how it should be rewired with the new switch. I did it myself, mostly from inside the Bambi...only one part needed to be done from on top. If I can do it anyone can do it. It's great being able to change the direction of the airflow.

Hi, wow, everyone has a different story. My fan motor made some excessive noise; FF said to reverse the motor from time to time and the brushes in the motor will seat in better and the noise should stop. I told them my FF didn't have a reverse. FF sent to me a reverse switch kit and instructions to install it. [FREE] The motor still made noise, so later they sent me a new brushless motor. [FREE] I have never had customer service from anyone, including places where I worked, as great as FF.

There is no way fantastic fans are going to pull enough air for the positive pressurization needed for leak testing. Alot of people try leaf blowers as well, but that really won't do the trick either.

Here is the fan unit for the gold standard in testing "the Sealtech 430r". It's a huge squirrel cage impeller that can keep up with the air loss. It is mounted in a vent, but that is where the air is drawn in from, so it doesn't escape there.

I put two fans in last fall, both are bi-directional.

We have 2 cats in the trailer and I run the front fan blowing in and the rear fan blowing out which keeps the trailer quite habitable for them up to about 95 degrees. Before I installed the reversing switch, I simply swapped the leads to the front fan motor so that it blew in instead of out.

I called FF and they sent me the reversing switch for free. That was about 4 years ago.

Rodney...I think that if you buy the fans independently you can get the bi-directional versions...but if they are pre-installed in a rig they will likely be out-only. I think it has something to do with a potential problem bringing fumes/gas in, so they just side-step the whole issue by installing exhaust only. Dumb if you ask me. We had a bi-directional fan in our previous motor home, too, and were disappointed to find the one in the AS only blew out....TB

Our 2005 25FB came new with a reversible Fantastic Fan in the living area. We had a second on installed at JC in the bedroom. We got the model with the remote control, and it is also reversible. Until recently, I did not even realize that they made a one way Fantastic Fan.
