John, how did you get it for free? I believe they once sent them for free, but when I reversed the motor last year, they were charging for it. Did you do this sometime before they started charging from it?

We have the front one (near the bathroom soil stack) on exhaust and the rear one (over dinette) on intake. The stove fan and the small exhaust fans give us plenty of exhaust. We can also open the door.

I switched the wires not on the motor, but where the motor wires connected to the switch and ground if I remember properly. That required more wire. I don't remember why I didn't switch them at the motor—maybe the fan blades got in the way.

I called just as soon as I bought my 2005 Classic. We travel with cats and depend on the fans to keep the trailer livable when we stop for meals. I run the lounge fan blowing in and the bedroom fan blowing out.

My 2003 Classic had reversible fans, but Airstream had gone to one-way fans in the 2005. That probably made me just about the first to call. The switch was free, but I had to figure out the connections myself since at that time, they had no instructions.

Thanks for the info John. I tried to get the reversing switch in 2008, but I didn't have the model number and never called them back, so by the time I decided to do something about it, they were charging for it. From time to time people post about getting things replaced for free from FF, but that has changed for the reversing switches at least.

I want to change the switch on the stove fan to a two stage or rheostat and I have an explanation how to do it from a post years ago, but still taking my time on that.

Hi, I also got the reversing switch for free. My original vent motor made some noise. More than it should have. I E-mailed F.V. and they told me that if I ran the fan in reverse sometimes, it would make the brushes in the motor quieter. I told them that Mine doesn't have a reverse, so they sent me a new switch, free. The original motor still made noise, so they sent me a new brush-less motor. [free] All is well now.

Bob, do you know when they started using brushless motors? Or, at least, when you got one?

Given how few days, even for intrepid travelers, the fans are used, I don't think the brushes would wear out in a lifetime, but it's be nice to have the brushless one.

Hi, Gene; We have had the new motor for about three or four years. I noticed many new trailers, long after I replaced my motor, still had the old type in them. The old motors were black and tall. The new motors are shorter and white on top. I will see if I can find a picture showing the new type motor.

Thanks Bob. I'll have to go look, but my weak memory is of the earlier version.
