First post on Forum & I am sure someone has performed this task. Need to removebathroom fan as it was destroyed in hail storm. Removed inner ring and top cover, now removed 6 or so screws into roof. Does the fan just pull out from outside? I have removed sealant from around ring but its still stuck....HELP. THEN is there a preferred replacement fan or buy whatever dealer has in stock. Thanks in advance - Reno
Welcome to the forums! Do you have a picture of the fan in question? That'll let others identify exactly what fan type you're talking about. For example, is it a 6" round vent fan or something else?
I just replaced mine on a '79. See the message thread started by me on this forum.
It sounds like you are talking about the 6" round fan. It can be replaced with a VentLine VanAir fan easlily enough. Since you removed the screws up on the roof, it is just a matter of breaking all the vulkem loose and then it will pull off from the outside.
I slid a putty knife in under the base flange and tapped it around the edge with a hammer. A pretty easy job. I took some photos and can post them if you are interested.
