Another Hehr lifter question for the Astradome

Just installed a new vent cover for my 61 Bambi. The old vent cover was a homemade welded metal and glass jobber held in place with bolts through the vent frame. I found the original lifters in a drawer and they appeared to still be operational so I cleaned, lubed, and reinstalled them.

Everything installed easy. However, when I spin the lifters to raise them, the rivet on the side of the lifter body hits the top part of the metal bracket at every turn.

The metal brackets each have identical bends at the top where the cylinder rides. Before I go bending 50+ year old metal around, is there some finesse I am missing?

Another Hehr lifter question for the Astradome

To be clear, the cylindrical outer body does turn as inner cylinder lifting occurs. Is this not supposed to happen?

Bend the bracket so it doesn't hit the rivet. They are supposed to be flat, not bent.

One of mine is seized. Have tried WD40 and torch. Any other suggestions?

Not the torch. If the lifter is not already ruined use a carburetor or brake cleaner(spray can available at auto-parts store) and use it to dissolve the crud build up. Then operate the lifter and lube it with a white lithium type grease. Remember that WD 40 is not a lube.

It is really too bad nobody makes reproductions of those lifters. They could sell a bunch.
