Air Filter for Fantastic Fan

Ok I did a search and came up with a $20 plus or minus EZ/Maxx Screen filter for the vent.

I am trying to keep as much Pollen and dust out of the trailer as possible. I am allergic to both.
I found some 12X12 furrnace return air filters at the local hardware store. What I really need are 14X14. Those would be a press fit. I found some 14X30s. I could cut them in half but that can get messy.
Any clues for us full timers?

according to fantastic fan ANY filter or extra screening over the oem screen is discouraged...

and will void the warranty.

they really don't want you to do that.

i've used the c/w version you found and it is just soso....

much of the dust it collects falls out onto the bed when ya turn off the fan.

a better solution for allergy folks is a hepa quality room air filter.

plug it in and let it clean the air.

keep the windows closed and use the a/c.

using the fantastic fans or open windows just pulls MORE pollen into the unit.

which doesn't help much.

rich carpenter (gadget tech) has written about his hepa room filter, so he'd be a good consultant...

I installed one just to try it out and found that it catches NOTHING in the media. It's worthless except to block out a little sunlight. My AC filter catches more dust and pollen than this piece of hardware. I'm removing mine.

Michelle, we had some success with installing hepa filters in place of the A/C filters and furnacer filter. I also have some allergies that I would like to avoid.

I'd have to agree, filtering the air at the fan isn't going to do all that much. As odd as it sounds coming from one that loves to have the windows open, the A/C on with a good HEPA filter will most likely be your best bet....

So can I get a good HEPA filter for the AC? or do I need a seperate unit like 2air suggested. Room in the bedroom is limited.

I used two for a Dirt Devil upright vacuum, and trimmed one end to fit. The alternative is a seperate unit. They are kind of pricey, but if you can save the space a stand alone unit would take up, it may be worth it.

trimming and fitting hepa inserts may be worth the trial...

i don't think there is a filter in these newer furnaces...

and really it depends on the severity of your allergies and the location.

there are some cooler days without the need for a/c or some boondocking times when a small inverter could power a separate hepa unit. even with full hook ups there are times when the a/c is OFF but filtration could continue with a free standing unit, which uses much less juice.

with some big time allergies he's been all over this issue and no doubt can offer some help or recommendations for air cleaning units....

and don't forget the nasal spray and drugs!

I took a 24 inch wide filter, cut it in half and put it over the furnance intake. It has cut down on the dust in the trailer when using the heat.
I would prefer to get fresh air if I can filter it. The big one in Boise is dust. I have an inverter but no circuits in the bedroom. Just tryng to keep as many allergens out of the trailer as possible.

gotcha 'bout the furnace. good idea.

i use a small inverter that plugs into the 12 tv outlet in the bedroom, behind the curtain or on the wall. you've got that right? with the lower amperage units these work great and do not need to be part of your installed inverter wiring.

since you are ok fabricating filter options,
another idea is close the bedroom door and turn on the fantasic fan and place a filter at the lower door opening which is 4 inches or so. then fresh air from the front would pass through the filter before entering the bedroom and out the fan/vent. bingo clean fresh bedroom air.

just an idea..
