Here is a picture of the sink and stove vent on my 67 tradewind. Can anyone provide a picture of what they should look like after restoration? Were there metal covers over these plastic vent covers? If so, any thoughts on where I could find the proper covers?

Photo didn't appear. I'll be back after i figure out how to do this.

Hey Jim ~

Ours, although not a '67 are very similar...there isn't any metal cover, just the plastic vent cover. Rob is going to remove ours this weekend to finish repairing it, because it was damaged like yours is. He's rebuilding it using fibergalss and painting it silver. I'll take some photos & post them.

Our small vent (like yours) wasn't as damaged as yours is, but it did have major cracks that don't show in the photo below. Rob started working on it before I got "Before" pictures of it. The other larger vent was just about ready to fall apart with holes & brittle broken plastic & chunks that were missing, it basically was help together with duct tape

. We Krazy Glue'd the cracks as best as we could to hold it together enough to work with. Then fiberglassed over the entire surface (front & back) to re-build it. Several layers & strips were done so all sides could be covered and it was sanded between each layer. The fiberglass he is using we got at the auto supply store...nothing special. The photos below show the "Before" of the large vent and were it is today...Rob is working on finishing them up tonight & tomorrow I think just sanding them again & painting them silver, I'll post finished photos when they are done. If you wnt more "step-by-step" instructons, let me know & Rob can email the directly...

Hi Shari,

If you haven't put the vents back on yet, could you snap a pic of what it looks like under them, where the vent comes up through the roof? Does the vent just go straight down to the fridge, and the vent cover keeps out the rain? Or is there some screen in there to keep critters out? Just wondering, because I think I have a small leak there, and I was up on a ladder trying to get a good look at it and it's very difficult to see with the vent on.

The stove vent is on right now, but we'll take it off again to paint. However, the fridge vent is still off, below is a picture of what it looks like under the plastic cover. There is not a screen or anything...just a hole. Good luck in tracing down your leak

Mine has hardware cloth in the opening and riveted to the sides. It won't keep small flying creatures out but anything larger that might get under the cover (leaves this time of year) won't get inside.

Makes sense John, however ours doesn't have evidence that the ever was anything over the opening. When the plastic cover is in place, there's very little space between the flange and the cover so leaves wouldn't be able to get in.

Steph ~ Here's the opening behind the stove vent...it's too dark to see, but the fan can be seen inside the hole. Again nothing covering the hole itself except the plastic cover.

The stove vent on mine has a circular hole covered with hardware cloth rivited in and the 4 blade fan is immediately under it. It looks factory original. I have a 2 speed fan switch in the rangehood.
My hood is severely trashed and was also thinking of the fiberglas rebuild technique, but it's so far gone I was considering carving a wood moluld.
Andy sells FG ones but they're over $40 !!

The exhaust fan from my 67 TW has a grate that slips off the tube. It is pictured here along with the cuver that is too beat up to salvage.

The proportions in the pic. don't look right (not long enough? ).
Obviouslly you cut the flange to fit but if this doesn't look like a factory orig. when done - might as well use a dryer vent.
Anyone seen one of these up close and personal??

Part number 83608, is an exact copy of the original Zip Dee replacement vent cover.

The long flat part is designed to accomodate a Zip Dee awning.

There is no cutting or trimming necessary.

Are you saying these are a replacement for the one JimC posted ?
If you add a Zip Dee then you use this vent as a replacement ?
What if you don't have an awning?

Were you serious about a dryer vent? I haven't looked at that possibility.

I just ran out to look at the A/S, and if I installed an awning on the street side, the original vent cover would be in the way.

It's likely that a 83608 vent cover will appear on the TT.

The awning rail is on the curbside.
I was looking at all the alternatives and a dryer vent was the first obvious one to me - being a handyman!
I think I will carve a pattern out of blue styrofoam or wood and make a new one with fiberglass. I don't have an awning.
IF I do this maybe I'll produce a couple of 'em or make the mould available for others.
