66 Land Yacht Need Help!!!!!

I have a 66 land yaht and I need to replace the vents and flooring and sky lights. I'm having a real hard time finding any info at all. I bought a owners manual that I'm afraid may have been a waste of money. I need part specs. Im totally new to this and no idea where to start.

Help~!

Lissadog, First.... Welcome to the Forums! Now is when you should start your A/S education. Go to the blue tool bar above and click the search button and use words associated with the info you need. Such as repair/replace flooring, skylights, vents etc. You will be amazed at the threads available for you to read on your projects and how detailed the info can be. Hope this helps, Ed

You are likely to find very little structural information/specifications for your coach in written form as Airstream didn't begin the process of publishing Service Manuals until the early 1970s . . . in fact, 1966 marked the third year that Airstream published Owners' Manual (1964--1965--1966). There also would have been a manilla envelope included with the trailer when purchased by the first owners, and in that envelope, there would have been individual manuals for all of the installed accessories as well as components such as the furnace, water heater, and water pump (among several others).

Roof vents utilized on our Vintage Airstreams are essentially 14" x 14" vents with radiused corners. Many of us with Vintage Airstreams have replaced our factory vents with Fantastic Vents . . . a vast upgrade in performance over the OEM vents. The large oblong vent in the living room is often referred to as an Astrodome. Replacement covers for the Astrodome are available from several sources . . . you might try Inland RV, Out of Doors Mart, and/or Vintage Trailer Supply.

When you mention replacing flooring, are you just wanting to replace the coverings . . . or the underlayment down to the steel chassis? For floor coverins, you can utilized many standard household floor coverings . . . it is, however, to keep in mind the weight of the product chosen as well as the freeze-thaw-extreme temperature cycles that your coach may be exposed to while in use or in storage. Vinyl Tile (squares), floating laminates, and carpeting all popular choices . . . some also choose sheet Vinyl and have had good results . . . I have Commercial Grade Congoleum sheet vinyl floor coverings in my Overlander while I have Armstrong Laminate floor coverings in my Minuet . . . I am satisfied with both choices, but if I were to put new floor coverings in either coach, I would be looking at floating laminate floor coverings (there is a modest weight penalty with the laminate floating floor choice). If your intentions are to replace the entire plywood subfloor system, you can perform a Forums for "Full Monty" or "Floor Replacement" and find ample reading regarding the choices for subfloor replacement.

Good luck with your projects!

Kevin
