wing window tie bar

The seveice manual says the tie bar to the wing window must be replaced with a new one after removal. Any particular reason why?

What is a tie bar? There is a U-shaped frame and then a vertical section.

This is the vertical bar between the front window and the wing window. I have not completely removed it yet, I just drove it down about an inch with a hammer and block of hard wood

Unless you totally trash it, I can't see why you would need to replace it. I doubt you can find just that part anymore. You would have to buy a new widow to get that part new. I have not seen window frame extrusions any place. Both my front wing windows were leaking around the outside gray gasket. I cut that outer flange with a utility knife and sealed with Trempro-635. I have no more leaks. I don't have much moisture between the panes yet. Why are you pulling the window?

That bar, according to Airstream, holds the wing windows to the front window.

Interesting enough, that same bar "IS NOT": used to hold the wrap windows, which are much larger, to the front window.

We have found using that bar is a 100 percent waste of time and effort.

Using Vulkem sealer, does a much better job, especially when your fitting a new wing window into a 30 or 40 year old Airstream.

That "bar" is still available as a separate part.

The wing windows leak and I am going to remove the inner pane and the ugly gasket in between. (I have moisture here) These are called splice bars at ODMRV and are only $6.00 each.

Olympic rivets are part # 28100 for a bag of 100.

You will also need one tube of Vulkem sealer.
