window guard gasket question

Bear with a very new owner asking what may be a very stupid question.

Just purchased an 07 Safari 25', which came with the front window protective solar panels which can be opened (are the two side window covers called "wing windows"?). Was cleaning the glass inside and out, and opened the "wing windows" to expose the permanent windows for cleaning.

I noted the gasket on the wing windows does not completely seal around the permanent windows, allowing leaves, dust and water to enter the space between. Is this normal? By the fact that gasket material was installed, I assume it was meant to make a good seal around the permanent window frame?

Good question, my 2008 27' International CCD FB has the same thing. I have cleaned a lot of junk, dirt, leaves, etc. out of the not sealed window protector space. The only thing I can think of is that the seals are not seals but cushions between the glass and the window protectors.

Let's see if someone really knows why the seals.

I think you're speaking of stone guards and as far as I know that's their purpose, to protect the front windows from flying rocks. Not sure if they are meant to seal.

I'm a bit of a rookie but I suspect someone may have the whole scoop.

You have hit upon a rare sore spot that the designers seemed to have overlooked, as far as many of us are concerned.

There are threads that discuss the issue, and consensus seems to be that additional rubber is needed. Some use the tube floaters that the youngsters take to the swimming pool, or other similar devices to make a seal of sorts.

Come up with a permanent fix, and you just might get a nomination to the AS "Mod" Hall of Fame (if such organization exits). ;-)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I guess I was just wondering if this issue was unique to my trailer and surmise it is not just me! But maybe it is intended to just be a shock absorber as one of the respondents suggested. As I said, new guy with a stupid question.

Our TT was designed for the one-piece "sunglasses. amd that's what we put on it (I installed it myself).

When we went in to Can-Am RV for our "hitch tuneup", the mechanic noticed that the rock guard wasn't sitting flush all the way around the bottom, so he took a few minutes, and carefully bent the lower part of the frame so that it did.

That solved that question for me! It sits flat on the body everywhere. Not a dust-proof fit, so stuff does get in, but all in all, it looks great.

Has anyone had to replace the gasket? Our lens is partially popped out. I want to get it put back in before it gets cold and isn't pliable. Where do I get a replacement gasket? I was guessing a glass shop.Any tips on how to do it without braking the lens?
