Window Gaskets

I picked up my '79 trailer today and started making my list of repairs. I am starting specifically with weather proofing it.
So, how hard is it to replace window gaskets and where do you find the gaskets themselves?

We bought our gasketing material from Inland RV. They can guide you to what specifically you need for your year trailer. Ours is a '72, so I'm not sure if it's the same. Out of Doors Mart also sells it. New stuff is easy to put on. Old stuff is a pain to get off. You have to scrape it, then use a solvent to get it all the way off. We found carb cleaner worked fairly well for us. It's not a fast job - probably took an hour a window altogether to get the old gasket off and new on. It is very worth the time. You may have to also adjust your windows to seal well as we did.

Welcome to the Forums and Airstreams!

Dog Doc,
Welcome to the forums. We have a 79 Sovereign as well. The window gaskets that were used (if original) is a double lips type and the experts say there is a newer, better seal to use (the 'D' gasket). We also used the same gasket for around the door frame on ours and it has been a year without leaks.

Here is the link to Andy at InLand RV explaining the type to use (you can also order through him):

That forum also has the process for replacing I believe.

Yes, D gasket is what we used! Works great and seals the windows very well.
