Window cranks...Help!

Hi there,
My window cranks shudder when I open them and it makes me wonder if I'm harming them. Can I oil them or would that harm them. Or maybe I should ask....Should I be oiling them? And so the next question is IF I oil them how do I do it?

I have never seen any recommendations one way or the other regarding lubricating the window crank mechanisms, but I do know that the couple who ordered my Overlander new oiled the mechanisms with sewing machine oil every spring as part of their de-winterization ritual. I don't know whether it is luck or the result of regular maintenance, but only two of my window cranks have required replacement.

They are all metal inside no plastic, so oil them and it should free them up. I use 10W30 motor oil as it is thicker then 3&1 oil so it stays on the gears longer.

As it shudders when I close them I'm afraid that I"m breaking it so I hope it works.
