Vista windows

We're new. We just purchased a '76 31 foot International. We love everything except the fogged/blurred vista windows. We would like to replace them as I have heard there is no fixing them. A local repair/ dealer said the factory doesn't have them. Anybody have any leads or ideas. I tried to call Inland RV but couldn't get through. Thanks.

welcome

welcome to the AS forums and congrats on your AS purchase. Fixing the vista view, is possible, but your ability difines the hardnes of the job. There are many, many threads on the subject here, use the search or look in the forum titles for windows. The windows have 2 panes and the inner can be removed, the peeling coating on the outer removed, and then you have a visable vista again. I have not done it yet, but will. We love pics so please share when you can. MPJ

Hello Ken,

I had a similar issue with my '76 Globetrotter.

I drilled out the rivets and removed the glass - you've got two pieces of glass sandwiched together - one is tempered and the other is not. You'll want to keep the piece that goes against the frame riveted into your Airstream.

You'll want to clean it up and read the threads provided by the previous poster - what will be critical is sealing the window back up so it doesn't link. I used clear silicone for adhering the window to the inside frame and I used Vulcum around the aluminum piece that rivets into the Airstream. I do have one minor leak, which I hope to get to when I can - it's not a major problem but it is an annoyance

The upshot is with clear glass having a wonderful view of the sky!

You'll want to use the Olympic (?) rivets when you put this back in - you can use a rivet gun - but you'll need a rivet head trimming tool - you can buy them but Out of Doors Mart rents one at a reasonable cost.

Anyway, take your time - it will be worth the effort.
