Sticking Windows

Does anyone have a fix for sticking Windows? Without fail when I go to open any Windows they're stuck and I end up going outside to pry open. I've tried silicone but they still stick after a while. A little mechanical lever on the inside to push the window out and break the seal would have been nice

I've used 303 Protectant on the windows of our 2015 FC with some success. I apply it with a microfiber cloth several time a year.

I came across this mechanical solution (http://www.seeyoudowntheroad.com/window-poppers/) but have not used it.

When we took delivery of our new 2017 I noticed that all the window gaskets had something on them from the factory that does keep them from sticking but attracts dirt and leaves a residual on the window. Not sure what is is but I don't like how messy it is so I haven't contacted JC to find our what it is. For now I'm going to continue using the 303.

I've tried armorall and 303 without a whole lot of success. Probably because we don't tend to open the windows a whole lot.

I was thinking to buy the windowpopping gadgets but not sure if it is worth it if doing all the windows - which I probably would want to if going that route.

I've also heard of people just driling a small hole in the frames and using a wooden dowel to push. A cheaper alternative I guess. In fact I suppose you could leave short dowel push sticks at each window and secure them in place with a couple of O rings as a slightly better arrangement.

I just carry a large suction cup thingy and pull them open fro outside the first time on a trip if we want to use them. After that they are fine for the balance of that trip!

I use the 303 and apply it a couple of times a year. Purchased a plastic tool at an RV store that helps gently pry the stuck window and seal apart. There hasn't been much need for the tool since I started a regular maintainece plan.

Here is a related thread when I was having trouble with my Fantastic Vents seals.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f454...ml#post1826784 post #30

Seems the manual talks about 303 re the windows but the vent fan seals suggested a 100% silicone oil. I figured seals are seals. When I called FV the suggested the 100% silicone oil but they didn't sell it any more. She suggest air gun oil. The local dealer said the same thing and suggested seals are seals and the oil would be preferred on the window seals. It also should be noted the FV indicated the 303 for the fan dome only as a protectant not as a seal softener.

I found this on Amazon but there are others. This mf't confirmed the 100% silicone content...others were not specific.
https://www.amazon.com/Airsoft-Gun-L...e+silicone#Ask

A few others on forums suggested dry spray on lubricate...
https://www.walmart.com/ip/SPRAYON-S...0-oz./41213769

My experience last summer with the silicone oil was good but I haven't tried the lately nor re-applied it. Unfortunately I had a medical issue and Blue has been sitting idle since late August. I suspect I'll be reapplying another coat this spring.

However I must admit the window poppers look like a great mod. I was using a small plastic putty knife before the oil.

Well I ordered a four pack to see how they do. Think I'll try the air gun oil in the meantime.

The best thing I have ever found is dielectric grease found at electronic shops and auto supply. High end cars use that grease for their weather seals. A light coat twice year on my AS window seals keeps them stick-free.

I've put window poppers on all the windows in my Classic (I also used them on my Intl). They ALWAYS work. Frankly, I tried everything else and just got tired of spraying silicone, using silicone grease and every other compound mentioned in this thread. So much easier to push a little black button and KNOW the window will open.

I treat my seals with silicone to keep them pliable. I then wipe the glass edge with talcum power to dry the contact area. We do this twice a year as part of the exterior deep clean and waxing. Still going to install the poppers as it seems to be a great add.

I've got two solutions that may work for you. One high tech, one old school.

VW Group has had issues with the rubber seals on hardtops and panoramic sunroofs. Squeaks, leaks, binding, ect. Silicone is verboten.
Clean the seals and apply “Special Lubricant” G 052 172 A1. Ridiculously expensive but solves all the problems related to rubber gasketing.
Some say this is the same stuff as DuPont Krytox that GM used to stop “T” Tops from sticking on Vettes and Cameros.

The old school method is plain old J+J Baby Powder. We would rub this into the rubber seals on Bug convertables. Couldn't stop leaks, nothing did, but the glass wouldn't bind or stick, seals didn't collect dirt, was dirt cheap and smelled good.

Good Luck,
Tom
