Side Window Cleaning

Although the reflection in the photo makes it look greener than it is, it is GREEN with moss inside the panes. I tried to search the threads and couldnt find anything on this specific issue. Is there a way of getting between the panes and cleaning and then replacing - as you can see today i am removing cleaning and replacing the small windows and vista views. excella 500 1973

Hi, Bill,

Please do a search here for "thermopane" and you'll find a lot of information about these windows. My '79 has streakage rather than foilage, but I wondered about this same thing a month or two ago.

Some folks have gone to the lengths of breaking out the inside glass and then running with single panes. Some other folks have tinted their glass to hide the problems. I've just decided to ignore it as it's really not a pressing problem, at least in my case. I have plenty of other things to work on.

Thanks

I actually worked out how to get the inner pane out intact, i then scraped off the tinting, cleaned the windows and birds are now killing themselves flying into it. Its been a great day, I could not be happier with the results. I am now looking for the black rubber weatherstripping as mine has rotted some. I am deciding whether to put the inner pane back in. The green was not mold, or moss, it was the the sponge material draft excluder material that looked like it had been burned in the florida sun.

What method did you use for taking the windows apart? I have an '86 with a similar problem. Thanks, Ernie

Tincan, Is the window in question the upper window to the right of the door? I guess it would be the middle window if you have the Vistaviews. It's the one that actually opens and I bang my stupid head on when it's open! (Insert your joke here!) The reason I ask is that on my '73 Overlander, this is a single pane window. I'm wondering if maybe I've got a replacement window there. Maybe the Excella just has better windows. Curious.

Jim
