Screen screw question

Replacing gaskets and painting rusted hardware on all my windows. The screws holding the screens from the inside are # 10 X 3/4". The screws protrude outside and make it a little difficult to clean inside the window framing. Any reason that I can't or shouldn't use #10 X 1/2" stainless steel screws? What color do you use to paint the heads of the new screws inside the camper? White or off-white? Thanks. Jack

I replace mine as I get to it w/ stainless; no matter what you do they'll stick out, though. I don't paint the heads; I find the honest stainless to work fine.

In the overall picture not a big deal to replace the rusted screws. They are still holding, but just want to eliminate getting scratched by rusty screws! Thanks. Jack

grind some of the point off the screws. since the holes are already there you don't need them to cut to start the hole.

OK, the good, the bad and the funny. Liked the suggestion about grinding off the point of the 1/2" screws. Turned on grinder...and then it happened. Know one screw flew off and hit the garage door and another screw flew off to heaven. Finally figured out a good technique with the trusty vicegrips! Installed eight sanded screws this morning and they work like a charm. Still not sure about the shiney stainless steel heads in the interior, but figured that can wait.

you can take a thin piece of metal with the screw threaded in, to use as a holder. i'm glad it worked out :-)
