Screen Removal

On some of my screens, the little knob came right off but now I am having trouble getting the rest off. I went and bought different size hex screw driver thinking maybe there was something in there I needed to unscrew (didn't work), sprayed WD40 on it (didn't work)... I'm not strong enough to get them off but neither have the other 4 people that tried... I'm sure I must be missing an important clue. Any ideas?

Best thing is to take a photo or 2 to show us exactly what you are referring to. Things can change with different years. PO's can chance things.
Unless someone with your same year and model has the answer with out a pix.

I don't know what your screens look like, but ours have the little knob that opens and closes and then are attached with velcro all the way around.

We just started at an edge and tried to pull one loose and discovered the velcro. Who knew?

Much easier to clean these and the windows once they were removed.

I might be wrong but they sure look like a set screw that takes an Allen wrench. My handles are smaller buy have an Allen set screw. Some were a bear to crack loose. I found replacement handles at inlandrv.com so I drilled out the screw of a couple them.

Allen wrench is the hexagon correct? I bought one that had multiple sizes & the two that were close didn't fit... One too big... One too small. I don't see anything inside though... Like I do with the ones that lock the windows.

Yep, mine takes an allen wrench. Maybe the allen screw hole is stripped?

Did you ever figure this out?

I am having the same problem. The allen wrench set I have has one to small and one to big. I can't get the knobs off to remove the screens. Did you ever figure this out?

Please let me know what you find out. I want to take the screens off to rescreen and paint the trim. BTW what is the vintage trailer academy? That sounds like a fun weekend.

Its just a simple allen screw. It should take and english set but if these came from a non-US supplier they could be metric. There is no reason you can't cut the knob off and install a new one if worse comes to worse. I am sure someone has replacement knobs. mcmaster.com will have knobs that will fit but won't look the same.

So... it is just a simple allen screw... HOWEVER... it is NOT metric... which is what most places sale these days. It did work and my screens are now off! Vintage trailer academy is in Albuquerque NM once a year... very enlightening...

Well...I ordered a metric allen wrench and am waiting for it to come in, but I tried my allen wrench set I had in the garage and none of them fit. Do you happen to know which one actually worked for you measurement wise? I am so frustrated I might just cut them off. I looked up the academy, it looks like fun. We might try it next year. Thanks for the help.

DON'T cut the knobs off. I promise it's a regular allen wrench. Not metric. It's storming out right now or I'd go out there to find the size for you.

Ok... storm has passed...

it's a 6/32 Craftsman allen wrench...
I double checked it and unscrewed mine just to be sure!
PERFECT FIT.
This should help.

I did squirt something in the little hole to loosen a few of the screws up. Not sure what my husband gave me to use. I'm guessing WD40 in the small can. I had to open up the window to get on the underside to see what I was doing ..
and caught the drips with a rag as I squirted and waited a bit.

I don't think it is a 6/32 Allen wrench. 6/32 is 3/16 and that is just shy of 1/4".
