Replacing Windows on our '67

Hi Guys new here but could really do with some advice as to where I might find replacement windows for my '67 Overlander. Or alternatively would it be better to have the -curved - windows remade in Perspex by a local fabricator.

Perspex huh? When I saw that I knew you one of those rare Limey Streamers. I suppose your car also has a bonnet and a boot instead of a hood and trunk like God meant it to have.

If I got this right Perspex is what we here in the colonies call Plexiglass. Lexan is greatly superior to Plexiglass, but I don't have a clue what yu blokes call it. It is a polycarbonate plastic. Plexiglass likes to crack over time. Both are susceptable to the effects of UV light but plexi is far worse. Lexan tends to discolor over a period of years. Lexan is also more flexible, and more expensive.

The glass isn't that bad in price. I bought one of the large (like 39" long) curved windows and had it shipped for less than 200 bucks through Inlandrv.com. Vintage Trailer supply has them too, a little more expensive but has a warranty on them (not sure if inland does or not, didn't ask). Of course your shipping would be more. Did this about 2 weeks ago on our 66 overlander. www.inlandrv.com and www.vintagetrailersupply.com are the websites.

Install was really easy. Came with a drill bit that I ran down the track to clean out the debris from years of adhesive etc. Also took a little metal out because the new glass is ever-so-slightly thicker. I removed the track, used Vuelkem to install the track to the glass, let it set up for a day then reinstalled the track, new weatherstrip was included and it was all done.

Personally I like the look of real glass myself, but both plastic and glass have their positives and negatives.

I second gorasons' comment. Go with the glass. I replaced 3 of the 5 windows w/ glass from Inland. It is pretty easy. It looks great and closes tight. The plexi from the PO leaked pretty bad b/c it didn't seal tight.

I think I have the windows you need off a 67 tradewind. total window frame if needed. Shipping to you from California may be a deal killer, but if you are interested let me know. Give specifics on window sizes. Rex

Hi Redbutton, Once you found your windows this will help. Install instructions. Don't go with plastic. VTS or Terry at Inland RV can help you with the glass replacements.

Redbutton, You will be better off over the long run to use real glass replacement windows in your trailer. Use the search function tab on the blue tool bar above the thread. Search replacement for curved Corning glass. There are several threads that deal with window glass replacement but the glass on the 66' to '68 trailers wasn't even available until a few years ago. You will also need the gasket (seal) for around the window frames to keep the water out. You can now purchase the new style "D" gasket from Airstream dealers that replaces the original rubber gasket. Ask if you need any more info on this topic. Ed

I just aquired a 1969 overland 27 and broke the 2 front winged curved windows. I tried the 2 sourses listed here and my year isnt available.
Any ideas where I can get the replacement windows??

Inland Rv has them, not on their website though. Out of doors mart shows them on their website, but the photo at the top is actually a 70 window. The photo below the description shows the correct window. Here's a link to one of the two sides:

I'd check prices with your local airstream dealer, www.inlandrv.com and places like outofdoorsmart and see who comes out cheaper with shipping etc.

I'd definately invest in a rock guard, we too have a bad wing window on our 69 that will need to be replaced, cracked by the previous owner. Luckily hasn't leaked and we have one of those nice airstream tinted rock guards.
