Replace 'Smoked' Window in Door with Clear One

Has anyone ever replace the "smoked" window in the door with a clear one that you can see out of?

It puzzles me that the factory would install a window here that you can't see through. Wouldn't you want to be able to see if it was safe to open the door?

Is it a curved window? (it is on my '06 Safari) All the other windows on my Safari have blinds to provide privacy. The door window is frosted on mine. Blinds sure wouldn't work on a door. So my feeling has been that they want to give you the opportunity for privacy. Open any blinds you want if you want to share with the world.

In most camping weather anyway, my outer door is open and just the screen door is closed.

It might be a trick to provide a curved, clear, tempered window. And then have a competent shop remove the frame, install the window, seal and re-rivet the frame. Sikaflex, Olympic rivets, and a rivet polisher certainly could make this an invisible changeout. Please to provide pictures if you do this!

Replaced Mine :)

Hi Phoenix... I had mine replaced on our 2007 Bambi Safari 19'. I too couldn't understand a door window I couldn't see out of! Took it to an automotive glass shop and had it switched to dark gray tinted plexiglass. (Looks same dark tint as all the other windows. I like it! Haven't come up with an appropriate 'curtain rod' arrangement on the inside yet, so we hang a towel over the window at night. It's not curved enough to make a big difference. The plexiglass is flat. No problem.

Privacy,
It is the only window without a blind.
