Panoramic Window Stoneguard

Are the stone guards on the panoramic windows movable, i.e. can they be raised/opened like the rectangular front window? If so, where are they hinged and how does it work? I can't find a picture of a trailer with panoramic windows where the stone guards are not covering the windows.

Thanks,

Al

On our '76 the cover is hinged at the top and has rubber "keepers" at the bottom. Once these are released the cover has 2 arms, one on each side, with locking screws so the angle of the shade can be chosen. Yours may have gas filled cylinders on the sides which hold things up.

They are hinged but they aren't intended to be opened ,they are held in place by locking screws near the center window . you would only open them to clean the panoramic windows. They are hinged at the rear of the stone guard and swing out to the rear of the trailer .

Thanks. I couldn't figure out how they could be opened and look like anything, but I thought I'd ask.

Al.

Panoramic windows, otherwise known as wrap windows, use a 3 piece rockguard.

The front section over the front window, opens and can be set at a reasonable angle, using the two side arms.

The covers over the wrap windows, are easily opened and removed, if a person so wishes. On most of the, there is a double fastener hidden by the center section. Releasing those, will allow you to swing the wrap window rockguards outward.

Once they are opened in that fashion, they are then removable by simply lifting them up. The hinges are so designed to permit that little operation.

Why some ask, would a person want to open them ??

Simple answer, is to clean the windows and the backside of the rockguard, so that their Airstream always looks 110 percent.

A lot of the dealers show how to open the center one in their YouTube videos.

Thanks Andy. So they apparently can be easily removed if one wanted to.

Kinda need some help. We opened ours yesterday to clean and on 1 of the curved panoramic windows the top hinge rivets popped. Anyone know what kind of rivets we need to get this fixed?

I would suggest stainless rivets they are much stronger than aluminum if thats what was in there just get the correct size and be careful not to brake the window .

Latching the side windows closed

Does anyone know what mechanism is used to latch the two side gaurds closed? The side windows on my trailer were just wired shut when I got it and I would like to replace the actual closure. Picture's welcome. Thanks!

This is what was used to hold the bottom end of my segment protectors. The curved window stoneguards are held with something similar but my trailer is in storage and I can't check to see if the same one is used on the stoneguards but I do know it was some kind of a 1/4 turn fastener.

The receptacle, SOUTHCO RECEPT 82-35-306-10, is mounted to the trailer and a suitable stud is mounted to the protector. You can look around on this website and hopefully find what you need.
